Isaiah11:1-10

 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse;

from his roots a Branch willbear fruit.

The Spirit of the LORD willrest on him—

the Spirit of wisdom and ofunderstanding,

the Spirit of counsel and ofpower,

 the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of theLORD--

and he will delight in thefear of the LORD.

He will not judge by what hesees with his eyes,

 or decide by what he hears with his ears;

but with righteousness hewill judge the needy,

with justice he will givedecisions for the poor of the earth.

He will strike the earth withthe rod of his mouth;

with the breath of his lipshe will slay the wicked.

Righteousness will be hisbelt and faithfulness the sash around his waist.

The wolf will live with thelamb,

the leopard will lie downwith the goat,

the calf and the lion and theyearling together;

 and a little child will lead them.

The cow will feed with thebear,

 their young will lie down together,

and the lion will eat strawlike the ox.

The infant will play near thehole of the cobra,

 and the young child put his hand into theviper's nest.

They will neither harm nordestroy on all my holy mountain,

for the earth will be full

of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

In that day the Root of Jessewill stand as a banner for the peoples;

the nations will rally tohim, and his place of rest will be glorious.
